Learn basic technical camera skills and how to use your camera creatively to produce satisfying photographs. Technical skills include all camera functions and operations such as focus, aperture, shutter speed and proper exposure. Understanding aperture and shutter speed are essential creative tools for a photographer. Creativity and visual communication are addressed through learning the fundamentals of composition such as framing, color, light, camera angle, lens choice and most importantly - the magic of light. During the last 3 weeks of the course, you will work on a small project of your choice. Each student will need a manually-adjustable 35mm camera with a built-in light meter.

This in depth course is designed for students with a good understanding of manual camera control, who want to improve their camera skills and advance their creative photographic techniques. Through critiques and weekly assignments you will develop your visualization skills and increase your awareness of photographic elements of composition and how they affect the look and meaning of a photograph. You will work on a small project of your choosing.

You will learn how to use your Holga, how to cover the known light leaks, load medium format film and how to estimate exposure and maximize focus.
